acoustic electric guitarOne can learn many musical instruments, but when you learn to play acoustic guitar, it’s a completely different story. Something about the acoustic guitar makes it different from the rest. I believe it’s due, at least in part, to its versatility.

A Variety of Guitars

I’ve got a few friends who not only have an acoustic guitar but two have electric guitars and another has a bass guitars but by far it’s acoustic guitars that most start with. Unlike the solid electric guitar, the acoustic one has a hollow body and doesn’t make use of amplification to produce sound. Instead, it relies on natural sound produced by strings when its vibrations bounce around inside the guitar body’s hollow cavity.  So, there’s no need for an amplifier, well unless you own an acoustic electric guitar.

Most people who are trying to learn how to play acoustic guitar often end up frustrated. That may be because they fail to pay heed to things that could help make the lessons easier. That’s not to say that acoustic guitar lessons are difficult. It’s far from it.

Start Simple And Hang In There

Today, with the Internet at your fingertips there’s no reason learning to play guitar should be difficult. There are just too many places online for you to learn to play a guitar that there really is no excuse other than you really don’t have your heart in it. My experience is that most who give up do so because their fingers begin to hurt. We all went through that so just hang in there for another week or two and they will toughen up and it will all be behind you.

My recommendation for two site where you can’t go wrong are Jamorama and Jamplay. Both are well worth the membership fee. Then you can add Youtube and learn just about any song by searching for it as a cover tune. I have learned so many songs there but it all starts with the two sites I mentioned first so that you can a good solid learning background.

The key to your success at learning to play guitar is to stay focused while practicing and to find songs that match the chords and stage you’re at right now and for me that’s where Youtube really shines.

As much as possible, you need to start with a song that has a simple chord progression. When I first learned I started with easy chords like C, G Am and D, which makes hundreds of songs available to learn.

I use Google to search for songs I like so I can find them with the chords included. That way I can download them to my computer and then follow along as I play the song on Youtube or from my collection of songs. But I do prefer Youtube over just having the song because so many people do covers for songs and use their acoustic guitars.

Keep Your Guitar Tuned Properly

The first thing you want to do before you ever start playing guitar is buy a guitar tuner. This way you can be sure the guitar is tuned so that you are producing the right notes, otherwise something will not sound right. When a song doesn’t sound right it’s discouraging as well as frustrating because most people thing they are doing something wrong when it’s only the guitar not tuned correctly.

Example: Just yesterday the high temperatures and high humidity broke so the temp dropped and the humidity was gone. Almost immediately my acoustic guitar started to sound different. It had gone out of tune in just one hour and needed tuning.

guitar stringsI play a Yamaha acoustic guitar and periodically I need to change strings as they tend to lose sound quality over time. I don’t mind this so much when I’m at home playing and practicing but when I go out to a guitar jam I like to have new strings on the ole guitar. You know, just in case the guitar police show up as they have in the past.

I can play my acoustic guitar strings until they need replacing however my guitar buddy Gary only plays them until they break. Okay, he doesn’t break them all that much but he does break more than any other person I play guitar with.

We play guitar any chance we get, especially after a long hard day at work and guitar strings tend to pick up any sweat or oils on your fingers which eventually starts to deaden the sound of our strings.

I’ve tried a lot of different strings on my guitars and just don’t seem satisfied with anything other than the medium D’Addario steel strings. They give me the sound I like as they do for most of my guitar friends, but not all of them.

In the ten years I have been playing guitar I have only ever had two guitars, both which were Yamaha acoustic guitars so I don’t have a lot of experience with any other guitars but I have learned that some of my friends prefer other manufacturers of guitar strings.

Oh I should add that if you are like my brother you might have to worry about rusty strings as he hardly ever picks up his guitar to play any more. Last time I visited Ontario I couldn’t even turn the keys to try and tune it.

Give That Old Guitar A New Set of Strings

If you put on a new set of acoustic guitar strings on a regular basis, you will be able to tune your guitar perfectly like guitar buddy Jason who can actually tune his guitars by ear, something I’m still working on.

playing guitarEvery guitar player I’ve known has been impatient and want to play songs before they are ready to. I’m one of them as well, so it’s not uncommon at all.

It’s just such a cool thing to be able to sit down and play a song you love. For me it’s a great stress reliever, although at the beginning, well I’m not so sure that it wasn’t a stress builder.

You don’t have to actually master the basic chords in a song to play it but it sure sounds better when you do. All those I know who were beginners started the same way. They were at a jam, got interested, learned how to form a few basic chords and then went out and bought a guitar.

That’s exactly what happened to me, although a friend loaned me an extra guitar from his collection until I had one of my own, but I learned a few simple chords. I think they were C, G and D. Then they played songs using those chords for most of the night. It was great fun and I was hooked.

Both my guitars have been used Yamaha acoustic guitars that were within my budget but now I think I’m ready for a brand new Yamaha acoustic guitar.

Playing Guitar Is Addictive

I would have to say that playing guitar is a little like taking a drug that’s addictive. You have to continually get that fix or something just doesn’t feel right. I play guitar, even if it’s just to strum chords and practice finger positioning, every single day.

Well almost every day, there are exceptions like when I had a heart attack and was in hospital for a week and later when I had to be taken to Saint John so they could find the problem. Another time was just the other day when I came home from a day of fishing. I was so hot and exhausted I could hardly think and went to bed without playing guitar.

I have been playing guitar now for just over 10 years and have only ever missed a handful of days, it’s that addictive.

Blessed To Have Friends Who Play Guitar

Not everyone is blessed like I have been to have friends who play guitar. Years ago when I was in my early 20s I had the opportunity to learn to play guitar from friends but I was far too shy back then.

So if you are just too shy to learn in front of others I totally understand and for you I recommend two places you can learn without the need for human interaction. The first is Jamorama.com and the second is Jamplay.com

I have been so blessed to have friends who play and have learned so much from them. The thing is I have actually passed the playing level of most of my friends because I started using the guitar sites I just recommended and learned some pretty cool stuff.

I learned new chords that allowed me to learn even more songs. Today I think I have a few hundred songs I can play. I can’t play them all from memory so it’s great that I have them all on my laptop.

For times when my guitar friends aren’t around or perhaps for those songs they can’t play yet I like Youtube. I can usually find someone playing a cover tune while playing guitar so I can learn these songs even faster.

A Big Pain In The Behind

I’ll have to admit that I became a bit fanatical and called my friends way too much. I just couldn’t get enough and would stay up night and day. All I could think about was learning more and more. So I had to apologize to a few for being such a pain. They were polite of course but I know I was pushing the limits. I was decreasing my stress but increasing theirs.

The Yamaha C40 acoustic guitar is usually assembled in Indonesia by Luther’s of Yamaha motor marketing Japan company Ltd  under the careful guidelines, specifications and instructions from Yamaha.

The guitar falls within the C series, crafted to give amazing superb tonalities at affordable rates.

Yamaha Guitar Type

This guitar is classified in the “Classical guitar” category, owing to its nylon strings and other strong  features of classical guitar.

Other features are the lack of a pick guard as principally classical guitars are played by finger plucking. Its fingerboard is also bigger (just like other classical guitars) as compared to the common acoustic guitars-

Yamaha C40 Quality And Features

Its has been widely agreed by accomplished  and armature guitar players that the luthiers did a  pretty good job on the design and finish of this guitar.

The  Yamaha C40,acoustic guitar has been carefully crafted into 19 neatly arranged frets resting on a smoothly finished, rose wood, fingerboard. The fingerboard stretches to two and a half (2.5) inches at the nut. It allows strings of of up-to 650 mm in length

The guitar has well finished tops, sides and back tops . It owes it’s smooth, glossy and shiny tops to the spruce wood, while the back and its sides have mahogany finish.

Its tuning pegs are plastic made and are white in color. The color makes them easily noticeable as the body is of brown color. The tuning pegs are open in nature, carefully fitted and with easy to tune gears.

The neck to the Yamaha C40 acoustic guitar is of non-solid nature and made from Nato wood, finely and softly finished

Affordability of The Yamaha C40

While prices may vary from one place to another depending on a different factors the guitar has managed to remain quite affordable. Its is however advisable to buy the instrument from Yamaha accredited shops or any other widely recognized music instrument store in your area.

The C40’s Ease of Play Tor Beginners

Many find the guitar to be quite friendly when it comes to its playing. The neck is usually softly crafted to allow ease of sliding of the thumb finger to allow change of chords.

However, its neck might be a little be wider compared to the acoustic steel guitars, making it difficult for a new player to it to adapt. Above all, it becomes easy and comfortable to a player who keeps at at it with patience.

The Yamaha C40 Tonality

The nylon strings and the resonator combine to give a crisp clean tonality that one may not expect from this affordable guitar.

The guitar gives easily recognizable Spanish guitar tonality making it to be easily usable in several styles and genres of music like Latin music, Salsa, Rhumba, classical guitar and finger style guitar, and soft rock strumming where needed.

Shortcomings of The Yamaha C40

Albeit, the strengths to this amazingly crafted instrument, a number of shortcomings are attached to it. Top on the list that many have experienced is the seemingly weak body. The may appear to be strong and beautiful by sight but this has proved not to be the case.

It also has the disadvantage of lacking a guitar strap button. This means that one can only enjoy playing the instrument while playing the instrument sited unless one improvises and adds one. This will definitely affect the clear finish of the guitar.

It’s top finish is also made of cheap material that result to ease of dents and scratches from almost any falls
The neck has also proved to be weak and subject to breaks from average falls

The guitar was made keeping in mind the acute need of affordable and quality guitars. It best works for guitar beginners learning the classical guitar, finger-style guitar and other forms of guitar playing.

If you are therefore considering to buy an affordable guitar but still get good quality on a guitar you should give a thought to the Yamaha C40 acoustic guitar. This Yamaha C series will most definitely not disappoint you.
